In Italy, Fiat S.p.A. is a member of:

  • AIRI (Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca Industriale) is a point of convergence for its 110 members who are engaged in and promote industrial research in Italy: industrial groups, small and medium enterprises, universities, associations, financial institutions, scientific parks, and other research centers;

  • ASSONIME (Associazione fra le società italiane per azioni) is the association of Italian joint-stock companies from various sectors (e.g., industrial, banking, insurance and services, etc.);

  • FEDERMECCANICA (Federazione Sindacale dell’Industria Metalmeccanica Italiana) whose membership consists of 103 local groups of companies in the metalworking sector which are in turn members of the national employers association, Confindustria (Confederazione Generale dell’Industria Italiana);

  • NGV System Italia, the association of Italian companies operating in the natural gas sector.

Fiat also makes a significant contribution to UNI (Ente nazionale italiano di unificazione) and CUNA(Commissione tecnica di Unificazione dell’autoveicolo). Both groups set standards for the automobile industry, promoting technical harmonization globally and making a fundamental contribution to road safety and respect for the environment.
Internationally, Fiat is a founding member of ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association) whose membership consists of European car, truck and bus manufacturers. ACEA’s principal activities include: participation in the EU legislative process relating to the sector through the definition of common positions, research and analysis on major issues (economic, environmental, commercial, tax), distribution of information on those issues to its members and the public, in addition to maintaining and developing contacts with other associations including those from non-EU countries (ACEA has a direct presence through representative offices in China and Japan and maintains regular contact with trade associations in the USA, Korea and Japan).
Fiat is also a member of:

  • AEA (Associaçao Brasileira de Engenharia Automotiva) which brings together engineers and technicians with proven experience from several disciplines, creating working groups to establish procedures for gathering and sharing scientific know-how related to mobility;

  • EIRMA (European Industrial Research Management Association), whose objective is to improve innovation, principally through market-focused R&D;

  • ERT (European Roundtable of Industrialists), whose objective is to promote the competitiveness and growth of the European economy;

  • ERTICO (European Road Transport telematics Implementation, Coordination, Organization), whose role is to research and promote the deployment of telematics as a solution to traffic and road safety issues;

  • EUCAR (European Council for Automotive R&D) created by manufacturers to represent the interests of the automotive industry in areas of common interest R&D: safety, security, environment, energy, mobility and transport;

  • NGVA Europe (Natural Gas Vehicle Association), whose objective is to promote the use of natural gas vehicles in Europe.

In the area of R&D, Fiat is also a participant in the development of several European technology platforms including:

  • ARTEMIS, a technology platform for Embedded Computing Systems. The ARTEMIS Industry Association was developed to promote cross-sector research on embedded systems in Europe;

  • EGCI (the European Green Cars Initiative) is one of the four Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) launched by the European Economic Recovery Plan announced by the President of the European Commission in November 2008, in response to the financial sector crisis, to address difficulties being faced by European industry, particularly the Automotive sector;

  • ENIAC, also developed as a joint technology initiative, a platform for development of micro and nano-electronics;

  • EPOSS, a platform for systems integration;

  • ERTRAC (the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council) is a technology platform that brings together the principal research organizations in the road transport sector for the purpose of developing an integrated approach to sustainable mobility;

  • EuMat, a European technology platform for advancing engineering materials and technologies;

  • Manufuture, a European technology platform which brings the principal research centers and companies together for the purpose of developing faster, less costly and more eco-efficient production processes for the high-added-value products of the future.
